The 14-year-old boys depart from the traditional Sunday school curriculum to partake of our altar boy program. Through active participation in the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and holidays, the program instructs the boys on the meaning of the Divine Liturgy, other services, and the fundamental sacraments of the church.
The baking committee of Saint Sophia Cathedral convenes to prepare delicious Greek pastries for fundraisers and the festival. All are welcome and no previous baking experience is required. The baking committee typically meets on a Monday or Tuesday morning on as needed basis.
Under the skillful guidance of Stelios Kontakiotis, the Saint Sophia choir chants the beautiful hymns that enrich the spiritual experience of Saint Sophia.
The Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) of Saint Sophia Cathedral is an extension of the community's hallmark Sunday school program and provides the cathedral's youth opportunities to volunteer, engage in enterprising activities, make lifelong friendships and express their Faith. With guidance from the GOYA advisor and faithful parents, GOYA officers learn to express their faith through a variety of "hands on" activities, including activity planning, group leadership, and financial planning.
Joy is the Junior Orthodox Youth of Saint Sophia Cathedral. Its mission is to lead our young people into experiencing the Holy Orthodox Faith through Worship, Fellowship, Service and Witness. All children who attend Saint Sophia Sunday School ages 9 - 13 are members of JOY.
Celebrating a winning tradition of sportsmanship and camaraderie, the cathedral's basketball program is open to all students of the Sunday school program.
The mission of YAL is to cultivate and educate our young adults (ages 18 and up), leading them to the fullness of the Faith and likeness of God; by utilizing the four circles of Christian living, Worship, Witness, Service and Fellowship, young adults are integrated into the life of the Church, enabling them to become active members of the body of Christ.
